FAQ

The following are some of the most frequently asked questions and consultations from customers.

About CPVC

Q: What is the difference between CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride resin) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride resin)?
A: CPVC is a material in which the performance of PVC is retained while its heat resistance, flame resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical strength are enhanced by adding a process called ‘post-chlorination’ to PVC. For more information, please see this page.

Q: What are the differences between CPVC and other plastic materials?
A: Compared to PP (polypropylene) and PE (polyethylene), which are commonly used in the same applications as CPVC, CPVC is superior in terms of heat resistance, flame resistance and mechanical strength. Also, it shows a higher chemical resistance to acids and alkalis, more widely than other plastic materials. It is less of a petroleum-dependent product, being composed of nearly 70% chlorine.

Q: What is the difference between CPVC and metal materials in piping applications?
A: The weaknesses of metallic materials are that they tend to rust and deteriorate, and that they are prone to internal build-up of scale (water stains). CPVC, on the other hand, does not rust and is resistant to scale build-up. In addition, pipes made from CPVC can be easily cut and glued during installation, which contributes to reduced labour costs during installation work. Training man-hours for workers are also reduced.

Q: What are the main applications for CPVC?
A: CPVC is often used for pipework in harsh environments. Examples include hot/cold water supply pipes and fittings where hot water is handled, fire sprinkler pipes and fittings where high flame and heat resistance is required. Also, for pipes and fittings for industrial applications where chemical resistance is required.
